The Council on Undergraduate Research has partnered with the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation (BGSF) Program (hereafter Goldwater Scholars Program) to present the CUR-Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Award, which recognizes faculty mentors who conduct their research in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) discipline, as defined by the Goldwater Scholars program. Mentors must have mentored a minimum of three Goldwater Scholars during their career.
The deadline to submit initial nominations was November 1, 2023.
Awardees Receive:
- The honor of being recognized as a CUR-Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor
- In addition, $5000 will be awarded to the recipient’s institution and dedicated to support of the faculty mentor’s research program and/or current undergraduate researchers

Dominick J. Casadonte Jr., Minnie Stevens Piper Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, has been selected as the 2021 Council on Undergraduate Research-Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Awardee. Read the press release.
Steven J. Miller, professor of mathematics at Williams College, has been selected as the 2020 Council on Undergraduate Research-Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Awardee. Read the press release.
Suzanne O’Handley, Rochester Institute of Technology, was honored as the 2019 CUR-Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Awardee at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research, hosted by Kennesaw State University in April 2019.
David Peak, Utah State University, was honored as the 2018 CUR-Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Awardee and was presented with his award at the 2018 CUR Conference, in Washington, DC.
Julio Ramirez, Davidson College, was honored as the 2017 CUR-Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Awardee and was presented with his award at the 2017 National Conference on Undergraduate Research, in Memphis, TN.
Carol Parish, University of Richmond, was honored as the 2016 CUR-Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Awardee and was presented with her award at the 2016 CUR Conference, in Tampa, FL.
Bruce Jackson, Mass Bay Community College, was honored as the 2015 CUR-Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Awardee and was presented with his award at the 2015 National Conference on Undergraduate Research, in Cheney, WA.
Francis Connolly, University of Notre Dame, was honored as the inaugural CUR-Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Awardee in 2014 and was presented with his award at the 2014 CUR Conference, in Washington, DC.
