Activities related to Undergraduate Research:

As a research administrator in the PUI environment, I am an active advocate and supporter of undergraduate research. Undergraduate research serves the University by: 1) integrating faculty research into student training and the curriculum; 2) fostering professional relationships between faculty and students; 3) producing graduates who are well-equipped for success in post-baccalaureate programs; and 4) producing alumni who can articulate the importance of basic research and the need for its continued public support.  I bring to my role in CUR a commitment to improving the climate and support for faculty and student research in the PUI environment.

I have worked in research administration in undergraduate institutions since 1987, in my current position since 2001. At UW Oshkosh, I direct campus programs that support the promotion of undergraduate research and the annual student research symposium.  My office also supports institutional and faculty grant seeking, grants administration and compliance, and faculty professional development programs.

  Publications:

“Dealing with Federal Compliance Issues at a Predominantly Undergraduate Institution,” CUR Quarterly, December 2001 (with Frances Vinal Farnsworth).

  Grant Funding:

As an administrator, my work supports faculty investigators seeking grant support for their research.  I have authored numerous successful proposals for institutional projects to agencies/programs such as the U.S. Dept. of Education, Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence, BellSouth Foundation, and others.

  Teaching Interests:

I frequently present workshops to train faculty at my institution in proposal writing skills, funding searches, and other aspects of grant seeking.   In addition, I serve my profession as a presenter of professional development sessions at conferences such as the Society for Research Administration and the CUR conference.  I also do grantsmanship training (paid and volunteer) for public and private schools, school systems and community-based non-profit organizations.

Other relevant Professional Service:

Memberships: CUR (Councilor 2000-02), Society for Research Administration, National Council of University Research Administrators.

Proposal reviewer and panel chair for AAUW Educational Foundation (1996-2002).

Co-chaired  two AAUW national symposia on gender equity in education (1995 and 1997).

Instructor, American History, Austin Peay University, 1980-1987.
